 Explore our Gulf Coast waters and enjoy some of the biggest wow moments at Mote SEA. On the Gulf observation deck on the second floor, turn the pages of an enchanted book on the adventures of Mote’s founding “Shark Lady.” Then venture down to the first floor to watch large sharks, rays and sea turtles glide over your head in our 400,000-gallon Gulf habitat.  Touch and even feed our stingrays and explore Mote science on an interactive globe.

Mote scientists study oceans around the world. Follow us to Indo-Pacific waters and meet stunning reef sharks, colorful corals, and touchable sea stars, anemones and more. Be prepared for exciting surprises, including species never shown at Mote. Discover how Mote scientists are saving imperiled coral reefs and reef sharks.

When rain falls in Florida and flows down to the sea, what amazing animals will it meet along the way? Manatees, otters, an alligator snapping turtle, a gopher tortoise and other iconic Florida species await you in this gallery celebrating Mote Marine Laboratory science in our Florida backyard.

Near the Florida Waters Gallery, inside the Mote SEA atrium, discover our Tech in the Depths exhibit featuring the ocean technology that allows Mote scientists to explore and sample oceans from the surface to thousands of feet deep. Mote is proud to partner with Florida Power & Light for the Pine Flatwoods Exhibit in the Florida Waters Gallery.

At Mote SEA, Science is the Attraction! Visitors can glimpse science in action through windows into our five STEM Workforce Development Labs on the second and third floors: the Aquaculture Lab, Conservation Lab, Coral Lab, the Veterinary Clinic & Diagnostic Center, and the Artificial Intelligence Marine Science Center. In these labs, interns and program participants including high school, undergraduate and graduate students, will gain technical skills, increase science literacy and participate in career-building opportunities by assisting Mote scientist mentors with their ongoing research.

Discovery presents “Bugs Bunny at the Symphony.” Sixteen classic Looney Tunes are projected on the big screen, while The Florida Orchestra plays their iconic original scores live! The 75-minute guided factory tour is a top to bottom exploration of El Reloj. This tour takes guests through the process of cigar making both by hand and on antique cigar machines, the Newman family legacy, the history of Cigar City, and much more. Three stories high, and one city-block long, this historic cigar factory will please cigar enthusiasts, history buffs, and those with interests in manufacturing and technology. The Chihuly Collection is a stunning, permanent collection of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly’s unique artwork. This presentation is unique as it is the first installation of Chihuly art in a building designed specifically for that purpose. Designed so that the art and architecture work together to create a visitor experience unlike any other exhibition of Chihuly’s art. The Collection is marked at the entrance by an iconic 20-foot sculpture created especially for the site.

The Collection includes Chihuly’s spectacular large-scale installations such as Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier created specifically for the Collection along with several popular series works including Macchia, Ikebana, Niijima Floats, Persians and Tumbleweeds, which have thrilled audiences around the globe. Each space has been designed individually to complement each installation producing unique visual experiences. A pioneer of the studio glass movement, Chihuly is credited with transforming the methods of creating glass art and thereby leading the development of complex, multi-part glass sculptures and environmental art.

A visit to the Morean Glass Studio, is an opportunity to get behind the scenes and observe resident glass artists creating unique works of art.
From gathering the molten glass from the furnace, to working it on the pontil pipe and glory hole, to its final cool down process in the annealing kiln, you will have a new appreciation for this art form that is centuries old. View the gaffer blowing glass, while the assistant narrates in detail the science behind glass, the artistic vision guiding the process and all the steps involved as the work is being produced.
All the pieces created are for sale in the Glass Studio Store conveniently located adjacent to the glass studio. Inside you will find a wide variety of art glass including jewelry, bowls, vases, ornaments and more.

We will split into two groups, one group will have a docent led tour of The CHIHULY COLLECTION, while the other group will get a demonstration of the glass blowing process. We will then switch.
