Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love. A breathtakingly romantic thriller and West End smash hit. The show was officially confirmed in February 2012, a few days after the singer’s death. The stage musical with a book by Alexander Dinelaris with the score featuring songs recorded by Whitney Houston including “One Moment in Time”, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and her pop version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”.

Will 2024 bring another hot start for the Rays? When they won 13 straight games to begin 2023, 10 of those victories came at home. Tampa Bay will be back at The Trop for 14 of its first 20 games. The Tampa Bay Rays have released their 2024 regular-season schedule, opening with a seven-game series at Tropicana Field against the Toronto Blue Jays. It marks the third consecutive season and 14th time in 15 seasons the Rays will play at home on Opening Day.
It marks the sixth time in franchise history Tampa Bay will open the season against Toronto, all of which have come at Tropicana Field. The Rays are 2-3 in those contests, with the most recent meeting coming on July 24, 2020. Overall, Tampa Bay is 14-12 on Opening Day, including an 11-8 record at Tropicana Field.

The unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after fifteen years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life. When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race, doing away with as many people as he can, while his business associate Mrs. Lovett bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public. Perhaps composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s most perfect score, Sweeney Todd is lush, operatic, and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy, and stunning terror. It’s one of the signal achievements of the American musical theater of the last 50 years, and it’s the high-water mark of Sondheim’s six remarkable collaborations with director Harold Prince.

Observe the beauty and power of early twentieth century automotive design and engineering. From the first modern car, the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, to the 1952 Allard J2X, the British car with an American engine, many different unique cars are on display. Mr. Howey purchased 60,000 acres in Lake County by 1920, he planted citrus on much of his newly acquired acreage. Unlike many purchasers of Florida property in the ensuing boom years, Mr. Howey was not a speculator, but a land promoter, who used the fledgling citrus industry of Central Florida as his economic base.
In 1925, he and his wife, Mary Grace Hastings Howey, completed the plans and started building their permanent home in Howey and by the end of 1927, their show place was finished, furnished, and occupied.
An architectural gem in the Lake County town of Howey-in-the-Hills attests to Ernest Hemingway’s oft-quoted remark, “The rich are different.” To wander through the 24-room house built by the community’s founder, William J. Howey, is like stepping back into the 1920s. Decade of Change offers a fascinating exploration of Florida’s first modern decade. From the lively jazz tunes of the Roaring Twenties to the architectural evolution witnessed in the construction of bungalows and Mediterranean Revival-style homes, the exhibition provides a snapshot of the diverse facets that defined Florida in the 1920s. From conquistadors to cattle ranchers, the Tampa Bay History Center is home to the Touchton Map Library, and a collection of 90,000 historical artifacts. The History Center includes three floors-elevator accessible, of permanent and temporary exhibition galleries focusing on 12,000 years of Florida’s history. We will have a docent-led tour of the museum followed by lunch. Decade of Change will be a self-guided tour after lunch.

Based on P.L. Travers’ beloved book series of the same name, Mary Poppins became an immediate hit when it premiered as a movie musical in 1964. Forty years later, Cameron Macintosh conceived of an enchanting stage musical that combines elements of Disney’s film with material inspired by Travers’ books. In the musical, Bert, a jack-of-all-trades, invites us into the world of London, England in 1910 — and, specifically, into the dysfunctional home of the Banks family. Jane and Michael, the young Banks children, have sent yet another nanny packing, dismissing these children as hopelessly and irrevocably spoiled and misbehaved. With a father who works constantly and mother who is always distracted, Jane and Michael have suffered without strong caretaking forces in their lives. Then the magical Mary Poppins flies in on the wind, bringing with her a combination of whimsy, magic, and disciplined common sense to the children’s lives. A century ago, the St. Johns River was Florida’s first great inland highway connecting the ocean port of Jacksonville with the still-wild interior.  The River ship Barbara-Lee takes you back to a more adventurous, more romantic time.  The River ship Barbara-Lee is an authentic sternwheeler paddleboat. The ship has five decks: An open-air top deck, a covered open-air “paddlewheel deck” overlooking the wheels, an enclosed upper deck that seats 60 diners with its own dance floor, a mezzanine deck that seats 40 and the large main salon deck that seats 84 with its stage, dance floor and bar.  The enclosed dining areas are climate controlled with air conditioning and heating.

In addition to the open upper deck with benches and railings, the covered paddlewheel deck at the rear of the second level allows guests to stay out of the sun while getting an unobstructed view of the river and its wildlife.
